About Us
Norman Road Haulage commenced trading in 1960 from premises in Norman Road, South Wimbledon, SW19. In 1965 our Managing Director, Mick Neaves, acquired the business principally for the benefit of its "B" Licences (forerunner of the modern Operator's Licence) that permitted "the cartage of sand, ballast and road-making materials within a 25 mile radius of Wimbledon Town Hall". During the late 1960's, the company operated from premises in Bushey Road, SW20 and in the early 1970's from Station Road, Merton Abbey, adjacent to where Sainsbury's Savacentre now stands. Our present depot in London Road, Mitcham has been owned and occupied since 1977.
Initially the company operated Bedford 4-wheeler tippers until the introduction of 8-wheeler AEC's and Scammells in the early 1970's.
It was in 1977 when Norman Road Haulage pioneered the use of DAF lorries in our area and have enjoyed, through Morgan Elliott Ltd of Croydon, a good working relationship with DAF (originally under the ownership of the Van Doorne Family of Holland and latterly under Paccar of the USA) ever since.
Over the years, under the leadership of Mick Neaves, the business has been involved with many major projects including:
- Removal of spoil from Tunnelling Contract for Thames Water SW London.
- Contract to supply sand for Ready Mixed Mortar & floor screed for Tilcon.
- Removal of excavated spoil & material supply, M25 & M23.
- Waste Transfer Station for London Borough of Sutton.
- Material supply & Spoil removal Heathrow & Gatwick.
- Decontamination Works, Millennium Dome.
Mick Neaves' careful and measured investment into the business since the 1960's has been key to the success and resulting financial standing that Norman Road Haulage enjoys today.
His son and future successor, Ashley Neaves, has been under his tutelage since the 1980's. Armed with many years of experience Ashley will carry with him his Father's business ethic & achievements ensuring continued success for the next generation.
